Date Night

On Friday, Steven and Logan went camping with the scouts. I told Emma and Kevin that since we didn't have any babysitters, they'd just have to go on our date with us. They were very excited! I told Emma that we would be going to Toys "R" Us and she asked if she could bring her credit card. (She had received a $3.00 off card in the mail for her birthday.) We looked through the entire store and Emma finally found what she wanted...Kitty in my Pocket. With her coupon it only cost $3.00. Kevin found a Jack Sparrow toy in the clearance section for $3.00 also. I found a sweater for Freeway. Everything was on sale, so it was only $6.00. It's lime green and purple. I told Craig we need to get him a purple leash to go with it, and he nearly freaked out.
From there we decided to go to the Galleria Mall for dinner. We went to the Food Court so that we could each choose what we wanted. Emma and Kevin chose McDonald's. Gross! Emma had her usual cheeseburger happy meal with fries and chocolate milk, and Kevin had his usual chicken nuggets happy meal with apple slices and chocolate milk. They were happy to get more toys in their happy meals! Craig and I chose Kyklos, a Greek place. We had the gyro plate. Yummy! As we were walking back toward the car, Kevin said, "This is the best date ever!" So cute.
(Side note: Emma accidentally left her purse under the table. We called when we got home and someone had turned it in. Lucky! We were pleased to learn that there are still honest people in the world!)
After that we went to Petsmart to buy dog food for Freeway. We looked around for awhile, found a new chew rope for him, then headed over to Target to pick up a prescription for Steven. While Emma and I were waiting at the pharmacy counter, she looked up at me and said, "It's really fun going on a date with you." I nearly cried. I got tears in my eyes and everything. They were very good for us and truly it was really fun to have them along.
So now you know what an exciting couple we are. Anybody want to double date?

The Slip

Thanks for letting me in, sweetie. I asked Ruth to let me in on the blog so I could tell the story about the slip.

So on Saturday night Ruth and I went out. We were going to go see a movie but there was no parking and by the time we would have parked and made it to the movie it would have started. So we went to plan B. We went back to the mall (Ruth's entry) mostly to pick up Emma's purse that she left in the food court. While we were there Ruth wanted to find a slip for Emma in JC Penny. I tagged along as she walked through the little girl section. No slips to be found. Ruth went and stood in line at the check out to ask the young man behind the counter where she might find a slip. Just a side note...from where I was standing I had a pretty good idea that he was going to be clueless. Let me describe him. Drew Carey glasses, rainbow striped shirt, black knit tie that was square on the bottom (totally 80's), tan slacks. The shirt was what screamed, "I only know how to run a computer, so don't ask me to find something". Ruth asked anyway, "Do you carry slips for little girls?" The look was priceless. I laughed out loud. He didn't know what it was. He even went to the other computer and looked up "slip". He mumbled something to Ruth and pointed to the little girl section and helped the next customer.

When I saw the look I walked to the little girl section when I saw someone folding clothes. Another guy. I asked him where slips might be. Again a priceless look and he said, "Do you mean sandals?" Again I laughed out loud and said thank you and we walked away. We laughed all the way to Mervyn's.

Ruth walked up to the first woman she came to and asked the question again. Again we were dumbfounded...she didn't know what it was either. She walked us to the little girls section and started walking through. Ruth finally found them. I had not laughed that hard in a long time. Two things I learned while working with H.O. Sullivan in retail: A) If you are going to work in retail you have to know your products and where they may be. And 2) Please dress so people will at least believe you may know where things are.

And that is all I have to say about that.

Just a thought...

I was reading my July 2008 Ensign this morning (I know, I know...I'm a little behind!) and this message from Elder Kenneth Johnson really stood out to me. He said, "One of the greatest blessings of membership in the Church is the opportunity to receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Through virtuous living we can qualify for this divine source of guidance, which enables us to see 'things as they really are, and . . . as they really will be' (Jacob 4:13).
In his inspirational classic, As a Man Thinketh, James Allen observed, 'Whatever your present environment may be, you will fall, remain, or rise with your thoughts, your vision, your ideal. You will become as small as your controlling desire; as great as your dominant aspiration.'
To mature spiritually, we must successfully face situations and encounter experiences that challenge our allegiance to our covenants.
If our faith is rooted in the sandy soil of reason and logic, it will be swept away by a rising tide driven by the escalating winds of opposition. A faith founded in Jesus Christ and on the rock of revelation will endure through the fiercest storms of life (see Helaman 5:12)."
That's all...just a thought for the day...hope it helps any who may need it. Love you!

Yeah, baby!

I found this through Tara's blog. I always knew it! :) Hee, hee, hee

I'm a Ferrari 360 Modena!

You've got it all. Power, passion, precision, and style. You're sensuous, exotic, and temperamental. Sure, you're expensive and high-maintenance, but you're worth it.

Steven's Latest

Quick note about Steven. He dropped band last year because of the conflict with football. We were a little sad, but not too much, because after 4 long years with Tara we knew the commitment with band. Then, after playing volleyball last spring, he decided he was done with football. Okay... So he decided to audition for choir and is in the choir this year. Yay! Music is good. I'm all about doing some kind of music. He is loving it and auditioned the other day for the barbershop quartet and made it! I love it when my children surprise me...in good ways.

Spooky

Yesterday, after the drama of being locked out of the house, Craig decided it was time to paint Emma's chest of drawers. He asked me to empty out her drawers while he got everything ready in the garage. Her chest of drawers is in the closet to make more room in her room. I emptied the first drawer, but when I went to get the second I saw ants on the top of the chest. Now we had seen an ant or two, but I thought that was just because Emma had left her lunch bag inside her backpack one day. I realized they were coming from a tin box her dance teacher had given her for her baptism. The only thing left inside was a few candy wrappers and the traces of sugar, but it was crawling with ants! I took it outside to show Craig and he squirted it off with the hose. I went back upstairs to my task of emptying drawers, when I noticed even more ants. Then I found the REAL source. Behind of picture of Emma and me was a peanut butter sandwich, still in the partially-opened ziploc bag, all moldy and covered with ants! It was like a scary movie!! Even the wall seemed to be moving. At first I wasn't exactly sure what to do, but then I grabbed the camera and took these pictures. I knew I would need hard evidence to put true fear in Emma so that she would never do this again!!! We finally got it all cleaned up, all the ants are dead, and the chest of drawers is painted; but it is something I will never forget.
Anyway...enjoy the movie. (Is your skin crawling yet?!?)

Walking

Since school started again I've been going for a walk after I drop the kids off. I usually walk them to the playground then continue on around the block and back home. It takes me about 20 minutes. Well, today is Craig's day off, so he decided to go with me. We also took Freeway the dog. We went a different way, through our friend's neighborhood. This route is about a mile. As we returned home, Craig said, "Do you want to keep going or do you want to stop?" I said, "I'm stopping. I have dance tonight." So we go up to the garage door to open it and it won't work; the battery is dead. We are locked out! All the doors are locked, the windows are locked, the doggie door is too small, and neither of us have our phones or wallets. As we sat on the front porch trying to figure out what to do, we finally decided to walk over to Kristy's house (the neighborhood we just walked through!) to see if she had a 9 volt battery. I knew if anyone did it would be Kristy! Sure enough she did and we were able to get back in the house. So, long story short, we ended up walking the extra mile and we're going to the store today to get extra keys made. :)
