The 24th was our Trunk-or-Treat. I had gone to Wal-Mart that day and pumpkins were only $2.80 each, so I bought two. I thought it would be fun for Emma and Kevin to carve them. They haven't had much experience with Jack 'O Lantern carving. It's hard to have them here, because it gets so hot that they rot in about a day! Kevin drew 3 pictures of faces on a piece of paper and crossed out the ones he didn't like.
Craig cut off the lid and scraped the insides to the bottom, then told Kevin to reach in and pull out the guts. As you can plainly see from the pictures, he was not too happy about that part of carving pumpkins! I thought he would have fun. Guess I was wrong! Craig and I were totally cracking up.By the time the carving actually started, he was much happier! He had fun helping Craig, but it was still a little too hard for him. Craig ended up doing most of the carving.
Emma's reaction to cleaning out the pumpkin wasn't much better than Kevin's. She pulled out one or two handfuls, then I finished the job.
Emma also tried her hand at carving, but it was too difficult for her also. She did draw the face, however. I thought they both turned out really cute.
Emma's faces. She kept her best one.
These are the costumes Emma made for her Webkinz. Beatrice, on the left, is dressed as a princess, and Minnie is dressed as a ghost.

Emma's ruby slippers.
And here's our little Dorothy. She even has a basket with Toto, too. She looked so cute!
Steven and Logan went as the Men in Black. If only we could have found some neuralizers!
Kevin wanted to be the UPS man for Halloween. We got a costume magazine in September, and that was all he could talk about. Funny! It was the easiest costume EVER though! Brown polo shirt, brown pants, black shoes, a UPS symbol I printed off the computer, and a brown paper-wrapped box. We got lots of compliments on this one!
Craig dressed up as a BYU fan. For anyone who knows Craig well, you know that this was 100% costume! He does NOT like BYU...at all! He got exactly the reaction he wanted at the Trunk-or-Treat. People were either offended or surprised or both. It was great!
From l to r: BYU fan, BYU fan, NOT a BYU fan, BYU fan!

Ruthie-
I LOVE it! Your post was so fun to read. The pictures really are wortha thousand words and how cute those pumpkins are. You guys looked great! Ypou gave me some great ideas too thanks. Hope you don't mind if we copy. Hunter and Reid are huge boys now so it's hard to find a fun costume that is original!
Awesome!
look at my cute family! Dad, that was fantastic :), mom, you're the cutest scarecrow ever! (since when do you dress up??) my brothers are studs!! Emma is the cutest dorothy i've ever seen, and look at little Kevin! Ha! A UPS driver! Sad i missed it! :) I love you guys
#1-loved the pic of kevin freaking out about the pumpkin guts! ha ha so funny!
#2-loved craig's costume! SO FUNNY! (derek's a die hard byu fan...and he didn't even go there. ???)
#3-how did kevin get the idea to be a UPS man...HILARIOUS!
#4-if i were a teenage girl, and not related to you guys, i would have a huge crush on steven! =)
The UPS guy rocks! How adorable. And the BYU costume cracks me up. So funny!
I'm still laughing about Kevin not wanting to pull out the guts. You guys are such good sports dressing up, I love it! Silas found a U of U cheerleader outfit for Navey a few years ago got lots of great reactions so we are putting it on McKenna this year. Si is also NOT a BYU fan, so he enjoys ruffling a few feathers. AWESOME costumes for everyone!
I love all of your costumes. Tell Emma she looks just like Dorothy. I really love it!!!
We carved pumpkins last night and I'm so glad to hear your story about Kevin not liking it. Let's put it this way, Brett almost threw up. I think he would have if I didn't say " don't you dare, I mean it, don't you dare."
Loved the costumes and glad to see the adults dressing up too. I laughed out loud about Kevin and the pumpkin. We went the easy route this year and bought little plastic pieces to decorate with, look at my blog it is hard to explain.
It was so cute to see your pictures, and to hear from you. Thanks. :) You are so creative. You really inspired me with your creative blog. I'm trying to do better with mine. It's nice that we can all stay connected.
Your family costumes were GREAT!! I love the pumpkin guts pics! Pure torture, right? And the UPS guys, and Men in Black were great!! I also loved Dorothy... Emma is just perfect for that role! We think about you guys alot! Hope you're doing great!
I just checked Becca's blog which I obviously haven't checked for a while, but Congrats to all of you for the new baby soon to be. How's the grandma title comin' for you. I'm so excited!!
Aunt Ruthie, I love all of your costumes! All of them are so awesome!!! The pics of Kevin cleaning out the pumpkin guts is PRICELESS!! hee hee hee Also, I agree with Angie... Steven, you rock! Do girls chase you like crazy?? Emma looks absolutely darling! Love all of them!
I loved this post. I think Mac would have the same face as Kevin if I made him clean out a pumpkin. And he is supposed to be the dad!!! I loved the costumes too.
Your kids are growing up so fast! These Halloween pictures are great. It sounds like everyone had a nice trip to the cabin. What a fun family thing!
